SOPA/PIPA stance
Posted by BDRyan on Thursday, January 19. 2012 in News
As many of you may have noticed, on January 18th, 2012, for a full 24 hours, we joined thousands of other websites in protest of two major and controversial bills - the 'Stop Online Piracy Act' (SOPA) in the U.S. House of Representatives, and its counterpart in the U.S. Senate - PROTECT-IP Act, or PIPA for short.
During the entire day, we 'blacked out' our entire site in protest of these two bills. The page that was put up in place of the usual website has been archived and can be accessed using this link: http://www.cartoonpalace.info/?blackout=1 - this page will remain for the entirety of 2012, since this is likely to be an ongoing issue throughout most of the year, and could serve as a good reference point for others who may have missed our blackout. Details about the SOPA and PIPA bills can be found on that page.
All services have been returned to normal as scheduled. Additional resources regarding SOPA/PIPA will probably be posted on the archived blacklist page. We appreciate your understanding in the matter, and thank you for continuing to support us.

I am looking for someone to design EITHER a:
- Small logo, which must fit within the topmost page block (the one that contains the current "logo" text), OR
- A banner which will span the topmost page block, but NOT the entire page width. (PREFERRED!)
Restrictions:
- All submissions must be in JPG or PNG format, preferably JPG. You may include your submission in both formats if you wish. Matter of fact I would prefer you do this so I can make an accurate comparison.
- No explicit content - that means strictly PG material.
- Design theme should follow an anime-related or cartoon-related theme (we are a cartoon encoding group after all!)

[UPDATED] Donations time again!
Posted by BDRyan on Monday, January 2. 2012 in Group News and Notifications
--- UPDATE 1/9/2012 at 3 AM CST ---
Plans have changed, the host I was planning to go with just ran out of available room for the server I was wanting. Thus, I am going to cut off donations at this time, wait until mid-February, and re-assess the situation. In keeping with fairness and integrity, any received donations thus far have been issued refunds. You may donate again if I determine donations are necessary in the future.
With the loss of our primary webserver, the need has arisen to purchase a new server. To that end, I have found an appropriate provider and cost for the needs of the group, but I will need continual assistance to help fund it. Fortunately the cost is relatively sane at $77/mo.
Donations are being opened up once more. Those who donate will get (as promised) exclusive access to the "pre-release" XDCC bot that will be hosted from that new server, their name on the site, and whatever else I can think up.

[WEB] Server Migration (COMPLETED)
Posted by BDRyan on Thursday, December 8. 2011 in Main website, Maintenance Alerts
UPDATE 12/31/11 @ 6:20 PM CDT - Website server migration has completed successfully ahead of schedule. DNS is still updating, give it some time.
Greetings,
This is an advanced notification that the server currently hosting the website will be MIGRATED to a new server sometime before the end of the year. No precise date or time has been determined as of yet, but this post will be updated as soon as that information becomes available.
PLEASE NOTE: This upcoming migration will *ONLY* affect the website. The IRC network will NOT be affected by this whatsoever, as it resides on a seperate server.
Thank you for your understanding.
-Ryan

XDCC Bot is returning!
Posted by BDRyan on Saturday, December 3. 2011 in Group News and Notifications, IRC Network
Hey everyone
After a long, long wait...I am pleased to announce that the XDCC Bot will make its grand comeback real soon! I can't give an exact date on when it'll be back online. But I can tell you the packlist will be much larger than last time.
In addition...I will be operating a 2nd XDCC Bot only accessible to donators, that will provide first-chance access to C_P's new releases well before they're announced in-channel. This will include both those who have already donated in the past as well as those who donate later on. Details about how I'll actually operate this one are still being worked out, but rest assured it will happen.
I'll post another notice when the bot is actually back online. Until then, stay tuned!

(COMPLETED) [EMERGENCY MAINTENANCE] Kagami.BDRyan.net (Newark, NJ)
Posted by BDRyan on Tuesday, October 11. 2011 in Maintenance Alerts
UPDATE 11:15 PM CDT: The rack migration has been completed ahead of schedule and IRC service has been restored.
UPDATE 11:04 PM CDT: The maintenance has begun and all affected servers have been shut down. The host has decided to move ours to a new rack so as to shorten the downtime. The current migration ETA on that is approximately 10 to 12 minutes. I will update again at that time.
Unscheduled/emergency maintenance has been scheduled for the datacenter in which IRC server Kagami.BDRyan.net resides.
This maintenance WILL cause noticeable downtime on the IRC server while maintenance is being performed, and this downtime could last as long as one hour.
I must apologize for not having a backup plan in place for this. Just keep an eye on this news post, and I will let everyone know as soon as IRC access has been restored.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
